Deputy Warehouse Manager (Glasgow)

We're looking for an efficient and organised leader to be the Deputy Warehouse Manager at our Glasgow premises.

We need someone to join the warehouse leadership team and support the manager in making sure the picking and packing of the day's orders and the processing of inbound goods go smoothly and the shelves are restocked for the next morning so we are ready to start again!

If you're organised, level-headed, a great leader, able to think on your feet and keep the day running smoothly, then please make an application by Wednesday the 31st of January through this page.

The Role

This is a full time role at our warehouse at 24 Baronald Street in Rutherglen, Glasgow. We sell renewable energy equipment, primarily solar and storage systems, to trade customers, and orders vary from single-item packages sent out by courier, solar kits that are sent on a single pallet, right up to commercial PV systems with lorry loads of solar panels and associated mounting systems. We fill 1-2 outbound lorries every day, as well as receiving a similar quantity of inbound goods. It's a busy site, requiring organised leadership to manage the flow of the day, while ensuring standards of safety and efficiency are upheld at all times.

As the Deputy Warehouse Manager, you will report to the Warehouse Manager, supporting them in their key duties to ensure the performance of the Glasgow warehouse, including the following key areas:

  • Be familiar with the company Health and Safety policy and working procedures, and enforce them to ensure a safe working environment at all times.

  • Ensure all staff are behaving safely, and if not, escalate as appropriate.

  • Ensure that picking, pallet building and inbound processing meet the standards required as well as identifying areas for improvement, and implementing those.

  • Keep the warehouse team motivated and productive, ensuring tasks are being prioritised appropriately.

  • Maintain communication with other Midsummer sites, the Coldhams and Milton warehouses in particular, to ensure that the company's total output is split appropriately in relation to available resources.

  • Liaise with couriers to make sure that enough truck/van space is available for outbound orders.

  • Ensure that new members of staff receive a full induction and training from existing members of the team.

  • Monitor and address staff welfare and performance, and ensure that staff are able and willing to voice feedback and engage with key warehouse issues.

  • Work closely with the operations team on inbound and outbound logistics to ensure the smooth flow of goods.

  • Setting an appropriate professional tone, leading by example, and ensuring that the behaviour of staff remains appropriate and professional at all times.

  • Helping management to set, monitor and improve on metrics of performance, including errors, damages and total daily output.

  • Ensuring any necessary checks and record-keeping are conducted as required, and that general housekeeping and tidiness is to a high standard.

  • When the Warehouse Manager is on leave or not present for any reason, you will be the acting Warehouse Manager, fulfilling all of their normal duties to a high standard.

About Us

Midsummer Energy specialises in solar PV systems. The bulk of our turnover is in distributing complete solar PV kits, including solar panels, inverters, mounting systems and electrical components, to a network of installation customers. We also sell heat pumps, smaller off-grid solar set ups and we have developed our own software product for designing PV systems, available online at easy-pv.co.uk.

We’ve grown significantly from humble beginnings - our first storeroom was the front room of a narrowboat, but we now run multiple warehouses in Cambridge, Glasgow and Dublin.

We're passionate about the environment, and we've gained a reputation for a helpful and open approach to business, and our staff share a common sense of purpose.

What you'll get:

  • A friendly and fast-paced work environment alongside a great team

  • A salary of £29,000 plus eligibility for our discretionary profit-share scheme for long serving employees, which can add significantly to basic salary.

  • 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays

  • Enrolment in the company pension scheme with salary sacrifice option

  • Cycle to work and EV salary sacrifice schemes

The ideal candidate

You enjoy a challenge, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You’ll have excellent attention to detail, strong communication and delegation skills and will be able to prioritise tasks well. You're an excellent leader - firm but fair, you're able to motivate people but also happy to pull people up on their performance if necessary. You have a good handle on how the day is going, and what needs to happen to keep it running smoothly. You're ambitious to grow both the company's output and your team's performance.

You are organised and solution-oriented, and have a strong commitment to keeping staff safe. You enjoy working with people, and like the satisfaction of processing a full day of orders and inbound goods, and knowing it has all been done to a high standard.

Forklift or H&S training is also beneficial, but not required.

If you think this sounds like you, please apply before the 31st of January using the form at the top of the page (click APPLY NOW).
