Our team spirit

Who we are

We're primarily a distributor of components of renewable energy systems - from solar panels to batteries and heat pumps. We've also written our own software for designing solar PV and heat pump systems.

Midsummer is a fast-growing company selling a range of renewable energy products, primarily to installation companies, from our offices in Cambridge and Dublin. We sell solar PV systems, battery storage, electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps and a variety of other associated products, and were recognised as the UK's best renewables distributor for 2020.

Founded in 2005, we’re now on our 7th warehouse, process around 40,000 orders a year, and have a team of over 95 people across the UK and Ireland offices. In addition to our growing gang of friendly staff and a lean, efficient operation, we have suites of web tools (easy-pv.co.uk and heatpunk.co.uk) that make design and ordering or renewable energy systems extremely easy. We have a team of developers who continue to improve our software.

As an organisation, we have a strong environmental ethos and a passion for promoting the uptake of renewables, and our team share a belief in an open and honest approach to business. Find out more about our story, purpose and how we make sustainability, integrity and innovation central to what we do here.

The role

You will be helping the accounts and admin team in all aspects of the day-to-day running of the company’s systems to make sure the administrative and accounts tasks run smoothly. This will include invoicing orders, logging purchases, reconciling payments, assisting with credit control, and other administration tasks as they arise. There will be a number of daily, weekly and monthly tasks helping to ensure all aspects of record-keeping and reporting are up to date in preparation for VAT returns.

It’s a busy office handling a lot of enquiries, so the role will involve some customer interaction too, dealing with accounts enquiries.

  • Orders and payments Taking payments over the phone, checking bank and card payment logs and liaising with the sales team to release orders as well as invoicing orders once despatched.
  • Customer accounts  Answering customer accounts queries over the phone and by email, sending statements and copy invoices as requested
  • Issuing invoices and credit notes Invoicing customers after orders have been despatched, and issuing credit notes as required
  • Purchase payments and record keeping Ensuring invoices received are as expected and meet VAT record requirements before making payment and logging in our systems. Liaising with operations / procurement team.
  • Credit Control Assisting with the processing of credit applications, ensuring credit account statements are up to date and chasing overdue payments.

Who we’re looking for

You’re looking for a career that will make a difference, and you have a knack for keeping on top of things. You'd like to put your energy and passion for customer service to good use, helping to grow a company that's making a difference.

We'll be looking for candidates who have a keen interest in sustainability and renewable energy, and an aptitude for administrative duties. A head for numbers and being comfortable with spreadsheets are an advantage, as is any experience of dealing with financial data and transactions and working with databases. You will be well-organised, with a friendly manner both with customers and colleagues. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team, but also be able to take the initiative to crack on and get things done without supervision.

What it offers

You'll be joining a fairly small team and see the results of your work from day one. You’ll be sharing a dynamic, busy site with the rest of the staff. There’s a friendly and informal atmosphere, and a real buzz when things get going.

You will learn a lot on the job, and we’ll bring you up to speed as fast as possible. It's a fast-moving industry so new products, customers and technologies come along all the time - there will always be new things to learn. Our own tools are also evolving rapidly.

This is a full time role based in our offices on the outskirts of Cambridge, with a salary of £22,000-£25,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Long term employees also take home a share of the profits of the company.

We can be flexible with start dates.
