Our warehouse

Who we are

We're primarily a distributor of components of renewable energy systems - from solar panels to batteries and heat pumps. Our software division is growing fast and we’re looking for enthusiastic people to join this team.

Midsummer is a fast-growing company selling a range of renewable energy products, primarily to installation companies, from our offices in Cambridge and Dublin. We sell solar PV systems, battery storage, electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps and a variety of other associated products, and were recognised as the UK's best renewables distributor for 2020.

Our software team has built some of the most powerful solar design and heat pump design software solutions available on the market. Check out Easy PV and Heat Punk - it’s free to create a login and try them out. We also sell customised enterprise versions of our software to major global energy suppliers, retailers and installers.

Easy-PV screenshot In Easy-PV, arranging panels is simple and fast. Required mounting components, such as rails, clamps, and hooks, are automatically calculated in the blink of an eye.

We have a strong environmental ethos and a passion for promoting the uptake of renewables, and our team shares a belief in an open and honest approach to business. Find out more about our story, purpose and how we make sustainability, integrity and innovation central to what we do here.

Midsummer Energy is committed to making diversity, equity, and inclusion part of everything we do – from how we support our customers to how we build our workforce. We actively celebrate colleagues’ different abilities, sexual orientation, ethnicity, faith, and gender. Everyone is welcome and supported in their development at all stages in their journey with us.

The Role

We’re looking for someone that will help us build fantastic user experiences for our customers. You’ll mainly work on our design software solutions - Easy PV and Heat Punk - but you will also help develop our e-commerce sites and our internal systems.

You’ll work with our managing director, head of software sales and our development team to help us create consistency and excellence in all our user experiences. You will be responsible for designing and validating new user interface elements as well as improving the existing ones.

You’ll be the first dedicated digital designer in our fast growing software team so there will be lots of opportunities to make your mark, plus opportunities for growth.

You’ll work with design and prototyping tools and help with user research and testing. You’ll help us define our design processes and create and maintain a UI style library. From time to time you’ll help with more general digital graphic design/marketing tasks.

You’ll report to our Head of Software Sales and work with a team focused on growing the software side of the business.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for candidates who have a demonstrable interest in software, sustainability and renewable energy.

You’ll need to have an interest and experience in both UI design and UX design, and ideally have experience working on public-facing web applications. You’ll have knowledge of graphic design principles. You’ll be experienced with design and prototyping tools like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch, Zeplin, Adobe XD, etc.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a team, but have a problem-solving and self-led approach during busy periods. Ideally you’ll have experience working in an Agile software development environment.

Bonus points if you have a relevant degree or certification in UI/UX or have worked for a tech startup or tech company in a UI/UX role in the past.

Don’t meet all these requirements? Don’t worry, you might still be the right person for the job. If you have enthusiasm and potential we want to hear from you!

What it offers

You'll be joining a fairly small team and see the results of your work from day one. Our office and warehouse work side by side, so you’ll be sharing a dynamic, busy site with the rest of the staff. There’s a friendly and informal atmosphere, and a real buzz when things get going.

You will learn a lot on the job, and we’ll bring you up to speed as fast as possible. It's a fast-moving industry so new products, customers and technologies come along all the time - there will always be new things to learn. Our own tools are also evolving rapidly.

This is a full time role based in our offices on the outskirts of Cambridge, with a salary of £30,000-£40,000 depending on experience. Long term employees also take home a share of the profits of the company.

We can be flexible with start dates.
