We originally designed the Smug app to work with connections to the cloud services provided by battery manufacturers. This works pretty well in most cases - but there are limitations. Most manufacturers only update the information on the cloud every 5 minutes. Some manufacturers impose limits on the number of API calls we can make. Some manufacturers charge for API use. Some of the cloud services are just plain flaky.
So we invented the 'Smug Bug' - a gorgeous little in-home display for your inverter that doubles as a communications relay!
It allows you to view the status of your system at a glance - battery level, energy flows between solar, home, grid and battery, and tariff data. Plus it also communicates with our secure cloud, uploading data from the inverter at regular intervals so that you can view the system on our Smug app and optimise your battery control for time-of-use tariffs.With GivEnergy inverters, a Smug Bug in conjunction with the Smug app allows you to bypass the GivEnergy cloud completely, giving you the freedom to control your inverter as you want.
Monitoring and optimisation through the Smug Bug and app is completely free - and where you sign up to 'Flex' through the Smug app (coming soon) you will even get paid for your battery occasionally being used to support the grid!
This is the standard Smug Bug, with a 1.75" diameter screen. Comes in a wooden stand so that it sits nicely on a worktop, along with a power cable and USB plug.
